Feelings Translated (A warm-up idea)

I really don’t remember where learned this idea from but found it written in one of my notebooks in the summer while cleaning and tidying my shelves. I added an online version too in the brackets. Hope you’ll find it useful 🙂

At the start of the lesson, encourage your learners to come to the board (face2face) or go to Jamboard (online) and write a few words or phrases to express

  • how they feel
  • what sort of day/weekend they’ve had
  • what they are expecting from the class, etc

in their mother tongue.

Put students in groups (face2face) or send them to breakout rooms (online) to translate the phrases they’ve written.

Follow-up:

Put students in pairs and tell them to write a dialogue using the phrases they’ve translated
