I have a group of students who are studying for the university entrance exam. These students will also take the language test too because they want to study TEFL or literature. Mostly we do more serious work in order to be ready for the vital test. However, there are times we need to take a…
After writing the fun activities for present simple and present continuous, I decided to continue compiling all the fun activities that I’ve been using for years here. I’ve just done future tenses so I think it’s time to think about the fun follow ups. Fortunetelling: Pair them and ask them to write a dialogue between…
Improvisations part 2 Sometimes I adapt activities from TV shows, games, etc. The following activity is from a drama group called ‘Mahser-i Cumbus’. While watching their performance, I usually find great ideas for my classes. It sounds a bit confusing but it really is fun. Student A stands up and mimes. While miming she makes…
Well, I told you about the wonderful experience we had with Berni and told that the whole thing was part of a professional development course. We started with advanced grammar and continued with getting students to write, use technology tools (blogs, wikis etc developing ideas), or the traditional way. The following day was about improving…
I realised I mostly wrote about quick games, fillers or warmers that may help the teachers to motivate the students or change the phase or the pace of a lesson. I believe these activities are great to present and practice a new language. During the activities, students will be more involved, enthused and eager to do…
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the…
In the session, I talked about why we should use songs in EFL classes. Music is everywhere in our lives. We listen to songs when we are happy, angry, sad or when we need inspiration or when we want to relax. We go out of our homes with our songs, we travel with them, we wait…
I’ve been thinking about this for a while. What not to bring to class in May? Mother’s Day? It’s difficult Some kids are not as lucky as others. Some homes are not as comfortable and cosy as the others. My daughter came home today and said how much she missed me when the teacher taught…
I really love ‘Go and Open the Door‘ by Miroslav Holub and when I come across with it in Creative Poetry Writing with a great activity and as we were doing conditionals, even if, as long as and some other conjunctions I wanted to do the activity with my students. I’ll quickly summarize it. Tell your students…
When I’m sixty-four is a wonderful song that works in the English Language classroom. I’ve just used the song with my students. Here is what we did: In pairs brainstorm ideas: 1. When is the retirement age? 2. What do people do when they are retired? You can talk about what people do in our…
Reading Tara Benwell’s blog post was so much fun that I immediately wanted to create my own list. See my kids grow up I want to see them grow up and find the right job and the person for them:-) Learn Italian I have always wanted to learn Italian but I can’t find the time,…
Why do we attend seminars and conferences? After the very successful ISTEK seminar, I’ve been thinking why we should attend seminars and conferences. I’ve been teaching for 21 years. I haven’t attended any IATEFL conferences yet but it is one of my dreams. I hope it will become true one day. However, I try to…
